Usines, stations-services, emplacements privés; il y aurait une quarantaine de terrains contaminés à divers degrés dans la région selon le répertoire du ministère du Développement durable, de l'Environnement, de la Faune et des Parcs.

On retrouve dans la liste, l'usine Bennett Fleet, qui, rappelons-le, a été vendue à l'encan par la Ville de Chambly en raison de son non-paiement de taxes au coût de 1,2 M $, en septembre. Selon le répertoire, le terrain de l'usine centenaire qui a déjà servi à la fabrication de chaussures (lacets, semelles, talons, etc.) puis à la transformation du carton, serait contaminé aux hydrocarbures aromatiques polycycliques et aux métaux et semi-métaux.

L'acheteur, Denis Guertin, est le fondateur de la compagnie Constructions Bâtiments Québec. Si l'on se fie au répertoire, il y aura du travail de décontamination à faire avant de pouvoir développer un nouveau projet sur l’ancien site industriel. Au moment d'écrire ces lignes, M. Guertin n'avait toujours pas donné suite à notre demande d'entrevue.

Certaines situations répertoriées par le gouvernement seraient déjà réglées. Chez Veolia Es Canada, dont le terrain situé sur le boulevard Industriel à Chambly apparait dans le répertoire du ministère, on affirme que les données du gouvernement ne sont plus valables.

«Les résultats d’analyses des quatre dernières campagnes d’échantillonnage que nous avons effectuées n’ont démontré aucun dépassement des normes», indique le responsable des communications de l'entreprise, Pierre Trudel en pointant les campagnes allant de novembre 2012 à novembre 2013.

Ce dernier précise que la problématique du terrain de Veolia était au niveau des eaux souterraines et non pas du sol. «Il faut faire bien attention et faire la distinction entre sol et eau contaminée. Nous, les mesures que nous avons prises et celles que le ministère nous demande sont au niveau des eaux. Auparavant, les prélèvements d'eau donnaient des mesures qui excéderaient au niveau du chrome, entre autres, maintenant elles n'excèdent plus», explique le relationniste.
